A Critical Incident Response Team is currently investigating a sheriff's deputy-involved shooting that took place late Tuesday night in Pueblo County, according to a release from the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office. This activation of the 10th Judicial Critical Incident Response team delves into the events occurring around 11:30 p.m. when deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the Loaf N Jug located at 31918 E. Highway 96.
The altercation escalated when the deputies attempted to quickly engage with the individuals in the vehicle. In a statement obtained by the Pueblo Sheriff, "the driver drove into a patrol vehicle and shots were fired," as per the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office. This series of actions initiated a westward chase down Highway 96. The deputies managed to perform a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver, which led to the suspect's vehicle rolling near Highway 96 and Vision Lane.
The aftermath of the pursuit left both the driver and the passenger needing medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the rollover. The 23-year-old driver was later transferred to a Colorado Springs hospital for further care. Additionally, a sheriff's deputy was injured during the initial encounter and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
