Authorities in Far South Bexar County are currently investigating a serious animal cruelty case involving a deceased white horse. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call last week at around 8 a.m. after a local resident discovered the horse's body off Goeth Road near South Flores Road, as reported by Fox San Antonio.
The condition of the horse indicated potential foul play, its rear legs had been bound with a yellow tow strap and tied to a support post on the entry gate of the property. Despite searching the surrounding area for surveillance video or witnesses, deputies have not yet turned up immediate leads. Sheriff Javier Salazar communicated the gravity of the situation to the public, stating, "The connection between cruelty to animals and even more heinous crimes against humans has been well documented," in a sentiment echoed by News 4 San Antonio.
Post-mortem analysis by veterinarians from Animal Crossing Vet Hospital suggested that the horse did not die where it was found but was rather left there posthumously. The scene seemed arranged, using the property's gate to offload the body. This discovery has escalated concerns about the potentially criminal nature of the horse's death.
In light of these findings, the Sheriff's ACE (Animal Crimes Enforcement) Team has taken over the investigation, endeavored to identify the horse’s owner, and find who is responsible for the death and abandonment of the animal. Sheriff Salazar urged for public involvement, saying, "We appreciate any and all help the public can give us in identifying those responsible for this horrible crime," as mentioned on Fox San Antonio. The authorities ask that anyone with information related to the case contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office at (210) 335-6000, as they work towards a resolution.
