Heads up, Jefferson City drivers: expect some daytime delays on your commute as the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) sets out to enhance traffic signals on the U.S. Route 50/63, according to an announcement MoDOT released. If you're traveling via Business U.S. 50 (Missouri Boulevard), Broadway Street, Jefferson Street, Madison Street, or Monroe Street, plan for potential slowdowns. Contractors will be installing new traffic detection systems at these signal points.
Work is slated to kick off on Tuesday and wrap by July 2, punctuated by a brief respite of project activity. MoDOT has scheduled these upgrades to roll out over two separate spans: June 24-26 and July 1-2, during a window from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, but remember all work is subject to the whims of weather, and schedules may shift accordingly. Single-lane closures will be necessary to facilitate the installation, so anticipate a squeeze in traffic flow and perhaps leave a little earlier to arrive on time.
"MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones," the department advised in its notice. Motorists are urged to exercise additional caution when navigating through work zones, attend to all traffic signage, and minimize distractions to ensure the safety of both the workers and themselves on the road, as detailed by MoDOT.
Vehicle operators, consider yourselves in the loop and adjust travel plans accordingly; the upgrades are for your future benefit, promising improved traffic detection and regulation.
