Kaua‘i firefighters rallied together to staunch the spread of a brush fire in Keālia near Keālia Kai, successfully containing the blaze which had scorched an estimated 5 acres by early yesterday morning. The County of Kaua'i update confirmed that while the fire has been reined in, crews will continue to monitor the area through periodic checks.
Efforts to contain the fire were initiated on June 6, before it could pose any hinderance to nearby buildings or cause bodily harm, with no reported threats or injuries. Kaiakea Fire Station personnel were deployed to steadfastly watch over the site throughout the night. The fire was first reported at approximately 3:25 p.m. on that day, as stated by the County officials.
A robust response was mustered with resources from various units. Teams from the Kaiakea and Kapa‘a fire stations, the dedicated Rescue 3 and Tanker 3, along with Truck 2 and Truck 8 forged ahead to the site, backed by Engine 8, and support from the skies with Air 1 and Air 2. The on-duty Battalion Chief coordinated the intervention, while the Kaua‘i Police Department ensured safety and order. The Department of Public Works was also on standby, ready to assist if the situation escalated.
The incident was under close watch by the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency and the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, ensuring to seamlessly unite their efforts for an optimal response. Despite the severity of the fire, the County confirmed that no road closures were necessary, allowing residents to move freely and maintain their routines with minimal disruption.
