As the 2025 hurricane season rolls in, Kauaʻi residents are being offered an informative guide to emergency preparations. The Department of Water (DOW) has joined forces with the Kauaʻi Emergency Management Agency (KEMA) and will be hosting a disaster preparedness event called “Disaster Preparedness: Ready, Set, Go!” at the Kōloa Public & School Library, according to the County of Kauai.
Set for Thursday, June 12, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., this collaboration aims to arm locals with the necessary knowledge to face natural disasters. "DOW is excited to collaborate with KEMA, the authoritative agency for emergency preparedness on Kauaʻi," Jason Fujinaka, Public Information Officer at DOW, said in a statement obtained by the County of Kauai's press release. "Together, we will educate and raise awareness on the importance of being ready in event of an emergency."
The session will cover topics such as creating an individual emergency plan, assembling a suitable emergency preparedness kit, and implementing safety tips. In an effort to promote preparedness, each attendee will also receive a 20-liter water storage container to take home, as reported by the County of Kauai.
