Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. has announced the sentencing of members from the "Own Every Dollar" (O.E.D.) criminal enterprise for a series of armed robberies targeting Upper Manhattan residents. Luis Rosado, identified as a key figure within the group, has been sentenced to 18 years in state prison. Convicted on charges that include Robbery in the First and Second Degree, as well as Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Rosado is the sixth defendant to be sentenced in relation to the criminal spree that lasted from March 2021 to October 2022.
According to information from a press release by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, Rosado and his associates employed social media to select their victims, who were often seen wearing expensive jewelry. In one instance, Rosado was criticized by an associate for appearing inexperienced by carelessly handling a gun in a social media post, telling him, "Stop putting your finger on the trigger…u look like a rookie playing with it stupid."
Randy Lavandier and Gilson Garcia, who pleaded guilty to Robbery in the First Degree and Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree, have been sentenced to seven and 12 years respectively. Meanwhile, others involved, Charmon Kennedy, Alexis Delacruz, and Angel Corporan likewise entered guilty pleas for Robbery in the Second Degree, with sentences ranging from 3 ½ to eight years in state prison.
The criminal enterprise's modus operandi as described in the court documents involved at least two individuals, who, emerging from a vehicle driven by an accomplice, would confront their targets at gunpoint. These acts were often accompanied by physical assaults and threats to life. Details of the weapons used were arranged via text messages, with Garcia purchasing a semi-automatic pistol before one robbery and texting an associate about their "easy" target. The victim was later pistol-whipped and robbed in an apartment building lobby in Inwood, as per the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.
Assistant D.A. Jean Prisco led the prosecution of these cases under the guidance of Assistant D.A. Pierre Griffith and Christopher Prevost. D.A. Bragg extended thanks to the NYPD’s Pattern 66 Task Force and specifically mentioned the work of several detectives and an inspector for their contributions to the case. The collaboration between the Manhattan District Attorney's office and neighboring jurisdictions, including assistance from the Bronx District Attorney's office and the Southern District of New York, proved instrumental in securing the convictions of the O.E.D members.
