Tragedy struck the South Side of San Antonio as voice actor Jonathan Joss, known for his character John Redcorn on 'King of the Hill,' was fatally shot outside a home yesterday evening. As reported by KTSA, the 59-year-old Joss was discovered by first responders around 7 p.m. but sadly was pronounced dead at the scene. An individual has been detained in connection with the incident; however, details about charges remain unclear.
The San Antonio Police Department confirmed they received a call to Dorsey Drive shortly after 7 p.m., finding Joss with multiple gunshot wounds. Their investigation is still underway as they interrogate a suspect in custody, and witnesses are being interviewed to piece together the events leading to the shooting. According to NBC News, the suspect has been identified as 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, who has been booked for murder.
Joss, whose full name is Jonathan Joss Gonzales, is warmly remembered for his contributions to television animation and comedy. His voice breathed life into John Redcorn for many years on 'King of the Hill' and he graced the screen as Ken Hotate on 'Parks and Recreation.' In a heartbreaking turn of events, just earlier this year in January, Joss had suffered another personal tragedy, losing his home and two dogs to a fire.
The breadth of Joss’s work included more than just the animated series that brought his voice to prominence with roles in television and cinema—such as 'Tulsa King' and the 2016 remake 'The Magnificent Seven.' His reach extended into video games, with a 2023 credit in "Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty." His sudden death has left fans and colleagues heartbroken, as they remember his talent and kindness. While police continue to investigate the shooting, Joss's family and representatives have not yet released a statement.
