A tragic incident unfolded on SR-33 in Lake County, where a motorcyclist lost his life following a collision with a pickup truck this afternoon. The Florida Highway Patrol reported the accident occurred at the junction of State Road 33 and Pine Island Road in Groveland, according to ClickOrlando.
The motorcyclist, aboard a Yamaha YZF-R1, was traveling south on S.R. 33, attempting to overtake other vehicles in a no-passing zone. While doing so, a Ford F-250 pickup truck, driven by a 63-year-old Inverness woman, started to turn left onto Pine Island Road, resulting in the motorcycle striking the pickup. At the scene, the adult male motorcyclist was pronounced dead.
After the crash, a roadblock was established in both directions at the location of the incident, as confirmed by troopers. The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to South Lake Hospital.
The closure of the road caused additional disruption, as the Florida Highway Patrol conducted its inquiries. According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, detours were implemented to redirect traffic around the crash site. Motorists traveling south on State Road 33 will be rerouted to Redwing Road, those going north on S.R. 33 to Florida Boys Ranch Road, and westbound traffic on Pine Island Road to Montevista Road, as detailed by Inside Lake.
