Firefighters are battling a significant structure fire that erupted on Euclid Avenue in Lancaster County, according to reports made by the Lancaster Professional Firefighters on Facebook. ABC27 News partner, Lancaster Online, has confirmed the occurrence of the incident with reports indicating smoke and a number of victims in need of emergency medical services.
In the course of responding, the emergency crews had to close off the 400 block of Euclid Avenue to manage the blaze, which was still active; multiple EMS units were dispatched to the scene, where a structure fire was being contended with, as reported by emergency dispatch and shared by FOX43.
Tragically, the fire inflicted injuries on five individuals who were subsequently hospitalized, the condition of these victims has yet to be disclosed. Amidst this chaos, a heartrending rescue unfolded as a baby was saved from the blaze that took hold of the Ambassador Apartments, leading to extensive damage across eleven apartments, as per WGAL reports.
The intensity of the situation forced some residents to make an arduous escape by climbing down from their balconies, where, according to WGAL, bystanders on the ground provided lifesaving assistance. Deputy Chris DeLong from the Lancaster Bureau of Fire described the local acts of heroism. While the cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities, a local resident informed WGAL that at the time of the fire, a woman and her baby were in one of the units impacted by the tragedy, and his mother-in-law had to seek treatment for smoke inhalation.
Given the ongoing investigation, authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the fire. Nevertheless, first responders, specifically the Lancaster City Bureau of Fire, remain the lead agency navigating through the aftermath of this emergency and the support offered to affected residents of Lancaster City.
