As Las Vegas motorists prepare for another week of commuting, they'll need to account for upcoming lane restrictions and ramp closures impacting Interstate 15 (I-15), linked to the comprehensive I-15 South Widening Project. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has released details about closures set to occur in the final days of June, cautioning drivers to plan accordingly.
The schedule, which may change due to weather or other unexpected issues, includes several temporary road closures. The Blue Diamond Road on-ramp to southbound I-15 will be closed from 8:00 p.m. Sunday to 12:00 a.m. Monday this week. The next night, the Blue Diamond Road on-ramp to northbound I-15 will be closed from midnight to 5:00 a.m. No work is planned over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, providing a break for commuters.
Continuing the week, travelers will face reduced lanes on northbound I-15 between Blue Diamond Rd and Warm Springs Rd starting at 8:00 p.m. Monday through 5:00 a.m. Tuesday this week. In addition, the eastbound Blue Diamond Rd flyover ramp to northbound I-15 will be closed during this time. The following night ushers in closures for the southbound I-15 off-ramp to Blue Diamond Rd and the collector-distributor ramp from 8:00 p.m. until the dawn of Wednesday.
For those setting their sights further into the week, NDOT warns of additional interruptions. Reduced lanes on northbound I-15 from Silverado Ranch Blvd to Warm Springs Rd and from Sloan Rd to St Rose Pkwy will become the temporary norm, as will similar restrictions southbound from Starr Ave to St Rose Pkwy. These nightly reductions are scheduled to persist from July 6 through July 9, adding layers to the complexity of nightly travel plans.
Furthermore, the journey home may extend for many as southbound I-15 compresses to one lane from Warm Springs Rd to Silverado Ranch Rd on the nights of July 8 and July 9. Similar construction occurs on north and southbound I-15 between St Rose Pkwy and Cactus Ave on the following evenings. Ongoing work also sees southbound and northbound I-15 perpetually narrowed to three lanes in certain stretches through July 2025.
To mitigate the frustration of road work, NDOT encourages drivers to remain vigilant and consider detour routes. Real-time information can be gleaned from nvroads.com or by calling 511 before travel.
