The essential requirements for candidates include a valid driver's license at the time of application, a minimum age of 18 years with no maximum age limit, a high school diploma or an equivalent, and meeting certain fitness standards. While not necessary for the application, the department has expressed a preference for enhancements such as the possession of a Nevada State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certificate, military veteran status, experience in wildfire fighting, bilingual abilities, and college-level coursework in fire science or related fields, as reported by the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Department.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Department is opening its doors beyond just the applicants; it invites the community, including young individuals ages 14 and older, to participate in a community boot camp. Scheduled for June 22 from 9 a.m. to noon, it's an opportunity to engage with firefighters and experience a slice of the demanding physical training at the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Training Center, located at 633 N. Mojave Road. This initiative is part of an effort to create a stronger bond between the fire department and the community it serves.
