Earlier today, June 12, the LVMPD helicopter AIR5 was on routine patrol when they were alerted to an in-flight emergency near the North Las Vegas Airport. A small aircraft was experiencing issues with its landing gear, which wasn’t deploying properly. AIR5 quickly responded, using their onboard camera to locate the plane and confirm the problem for both the pilot and the North Las Vegas Air Traffic Control Tower, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Facebook page.
At around 10:30 a.m., the pilot officially reported the malfunction. AIR5 stayed in visual contact with the aircraft, providing real-time updates and confirming that the landing gear remained fully retracted. Their ongoing communication helped the pilot prepare for a possible emergency landing, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
