Visitors to Heritage Park may have seen construction near Wisconsin Avenue and Coryell Street. The area is being upgraded to fix long-standing drainage and flooding issues. This project follows a 2023 study that showed the need for a better underground stormwater system, especially north of FM 518, according to the City of League City.
To help fix the drainage problems, the city plans to install new area inlets connected by 24-inch and 36-inch pipes. Large storm boxes (5x2 feet and 7x3 feet) will also be placed under roadside ditches to improve water flow. Work began last month at Heritage Park, with storm boxes already being installed, showing progress is on track, as reported by the City of League City.
As work continues, Wisconsin Avenue between Coryell Street and 4th Street is closed for construction. Signs are in place to help drivers get around easily. Travelers and local residents should expect some changes to their usual routes during this time, as per the City of League City.
The construction may cause some short-term inconvenience, but it's expected to be finished by spring 2026. Once done, it will help improve drainage and lower the risk of flooding in the Historic District.
