
A tragic accident in Leslie, Michigan, took the life of a teenage boy and left another hospitalized after an electrocution incident involving a power line. As reported by CBS News Detroit, the event occurred on Tuesday near an apartment building on Worthington Place Drive. Leslie Police Chief Evan Bennehoff stated that it appears "the boys touched the power line with a metal pole." In response to the incident, Consumers Energy cut the electric circuit to the area to safely address the situation, impacting service to 488 customers.
The Lansing State Journal disclosed that the incident sparked a grass fire, with Leslie firefighters quickly extinguishing it. The Leslie School District is actively providing counseling and support for the community, as affirmed by Superintendent Scott Powers, who expressed that the district is "deeply saddened by the events that occurred" and is concentrating on offering a "safe and supportive environment for our school community."
According to the coverage by WLNS, the local community has been deeply affected by the loss, mourning the 14-year-old boy who was fatally electrocuted on a community trail. A 15-year-old boy tried to assist and was also electrocuted through contact, but is expected to survive. He is receiving medical care at Mott Children’s Hospital. Reflecting the community sentiment, Leslie resident Shai Case mentioned, "It's extremely hard, especially when it's a child, I mean, you lose a little piece of your heart."
