
The Long Beach Municipal Band is set to deliver a robust lineup of free, open-air concerts as part of their 116th season this summer, starting on June 24 and running through August 1. According to an announcement made by Long Beach Parks, Recreation, and Marine, the historic band will continue its tradition of diverse performances, spanning from classic Western themes to the vibrant beats of Latin melodies, each show promising a unique musical experience.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed enthusiasm for the summer concert series, saying, “Each summer, the Long Beach Municipal Band brings our community together through the power of music.” He continued, stating, “Join us as we gather in our beautiful parks to uplift our incredible local talent, highlight our deep roots in arts and culture, and celebrate this cherished tradition of world-class performances shared with friends, families and loved ones,” as reported by the City of Long Beach.
Each week of performances will boast a different musical theme, beginning with a "Wild Wild West" motif, continuing into a patriotic "Let Freedom Ring" set, and journeying through cinema's finest with "The Movie Music of James Horner," among others. Featuring a wide array of talent, the venues include Whaley Park North, Bixby Annex Park, and others, ensuring that the sounds of summer will echo through various corners of Long Beach.
Long Beach Municipal Band's conductor Kurt Curtis remarked on the significance of the series, saying, “The Long Beach Municipal Band's summer concert series is a cherished tradition that transforms Long Beach parks into vibrant hubs of music, celebration and a sense of community.” He noted that the "Sunset Serenades" concerts would offer an eclectic mix of musical genres, showcasing the band's exceptional talent, in a statement obtained by the City of Long Beach.
The series aligns with the City's "Summer of Opportunity" initiative, aimed at fostering positive development among Long Beach youth and addressing youth violence.
