Devon Nigel Sells, a 25-year-old man accused of discharging a firearm in the parking garage of the Galleria Mall, was granted a $200,000 bond earlier today, as per court proceedings. The incident, which took place earlier in June, luckily left no one injured. Click2Houston reported that the shooting occurred a little after 1 p.m. inside the Galleria’s Yellow Garage.
Sells, who has been arrested previously in Hayes County on charges of Terroristic Threats and Making a False Report, now faces felony charges, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. In lieu of the bond, he is required to wear a GPS monitor if released, court records indicated. Although hopes were high that Monday's court appearance would shed light on the motive, little new information was revealed. ABC13 noted that a dash camera video, which a witness shared, shows the suspect driving a black BMW, stopping in an entryway of the garage, and firing several shots at another vehicle.
The arrest came following the authorities identifying Sells as the shooter. Charged with aggravated assault for his alleged role in the incident, Sells was detained last Wednesday and formally charged the next day. According to law enforcement, Sells' criminal history in Harris County is brief; however, two outstanding arrest warrants from Hays County for terroristic threats since 2021 complicate the portrait of the accused.
Details surrounding the motive for the shooting remain sparse, and officials have yet to comment on the outstanding warrants in Hays County. "Eyewitness News has contacted local authorities regarding the warrants and is awaiting a response," ABC13 said, signaling ongoing investigatory efforts to understand the full context of Sells' actions.
