A tragic event unfolded in west Houston late Saturday night, as a woman was fatally stabbed in a restaurant on Wilcrest Drive. According to Click2Houston, the victim was engaged in an argument in the parking lot with 53-year-old Santos Hernandez Cornejo, who is now charged with her murder. The altercation reportedly escalated to Cornejo chasing and attacking the woman, which police are investigating as a domestic violence-related homicide.
The incident took place around 11:30 p.m., and Lt. A. Ali described the situation as "a very aggressive domestic type of situation," during a conversation with Click2Houston. Authorities state that after the initial confrontation, the woman sought refuge inside the restaurant; however, Cornejo followed, wielding a long knife, and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the scene. The woman, who was approximately 50 years old, later succumbed to her injuries after being transported to a hospital.
Following the incident, Cornejo made the decision to contact law enforcement himself, leading to his arrest, as reported by Fox26Houston. He currently remains in custody at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, held on a $350,000 bond. The victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed publicly, was confirmed to be a Hispanic woman around the age of 50.
As the community processes the shock of the attack, attention now turns to Cornejo’s court appearance scheduled for tomorrow. More details about the motive and events leading up to the incident may be revealed then.
