A man was critically injured in a shooting that took place on Mud Island yesterday, after what police are calling an attempted robbery. According to WREG, the Memphis Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at Island Place East and Island Village Drive around 12:45 p.m., where they found the injured man, who was then transported to Regional One in critical condition.

The victim, while critically injured, is now stable. A witness described to WREG that the victim had been driving a black truck and hit a fire hydrant in an attempt to escape three suspects who allegedly shot at him and robbed him. The suspects were reported to have fled the scene in a red truck. The Memphis Police have released video footage of a truck driven by the suspects, as reported by FOX13 Memphis.

Further details provided by Action News 5 reveal that the man was shot twice during the incident. The suspects, who have not been apprehended, were seen in a red, single-cab Chevy pickup truck. The community of Harbor Town, where the shooting occurred, expressed shock and concern over safety in what has been considered a quiet area.

"We're young, so we're just now stepping out into the real world. So, to know that this is the real world is scary," Zoie Peppers, a resident of Harbor Town, told Action News 5. Her neighbor, Apri Wilikins, expressed her sentiment, "Prayers definitely go out to the family, but it definitely has us feeling unsteady, because how are we supposed to feel safe if things like this are happening? You know? We never hear anything like this." The Memphis Police Department urges anyone with information to come forward and contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
