A domestic dispute turned violent at Betty G. Ross Park in Lincolnton, resulting in a fatal shooting by police. According to reports, officers from the Lincolnton Police Department were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m. yesterday after receiving reports of a domestic incident. WCNC detailed that upon arrival, officers discovered a woman who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Subsequently, the confrontation escalated to an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead. While no details have been provided on what precipitated the shooting, the woman is reported to be in critical condition, and remarkably, no Lincolnton officers sustained physical injuries during the incident. The identities of the individuals involved have not been released as of yet, according to QCNews.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has taken the lead on this case, as is typical in officer-involved shootings. Agents from the SBI are actively collecting evidence and investigating to unravel the events that took place, shared by a spokesperson in a statement obtained by WBTV. They have been on the scene alongside the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Wildlife to assist with the investigation.
