A potentially calamitous situation unfolded at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh’s North Shore neighborhood, where Pennsylvania State Police apprehended Jeremy Hartman after an incident involving a commercial firework being set off in a bathroom facility. WPXI reported that the scenario began with Hartman detained for trespassing in a closed restaurant within the casino premises, where he was allegedly attempting to nab alcohol bottles with a value reaching up to $4,000.
According to Pennsylvania State Police spokesperson Rocco Gagliardi, cited by WTAE, it was while being ushered to a secure location by casino security that Hartman requested to use an employee-only bathroom – a request that was granted. With origins tracing back to a single moment of inexplicable decision-making, it was there that Hartman lit the firework that he subsequently deposited into a toilet, resulting in an explosion.
The detonation in question inflicted minor injuries on an unnamed casino staff member who coincidentally shared the restroom at the time. Treated and released by medical personnel on-site, the employee fortunately didn't suffer severe harm. Post-incident, authorities executed a search warrant on a vehicle that Hartman parked on the casino’s parking garage's fifth floor. Additional commercial-grade fireworks were unearthed therein, stressing the potential gravity of what might have been a far more destructive outcome.
As the ongoing investigation delves deeper, Hartman now faces multiple charges, ranging from arson to reckless endangerment.
