A man in his 30s was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being shot in the head last night in Jacksonville's Moncrief area. The incident, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of West 21st Street, was initially detected via a ShotSpotter notification, First Coast News reported.
Officers who arrived at the scene found the victim with a gunshot wound to his head; the man was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the officers responded after receiving the ShotSpotter alert, and a, 911 call from the same location, News4Jax reports.
Unfortunately, the search for witnesses has so far been met with silence. "Detectives canvassed the area, but did not find any witnesses of the shooting," Sergeant Mitlyng of the JSO told First Coast News. Given the severity of the victim's injury, communication with him has been impossible, leaving authorities with few leads to pursue.
Local law enforcement is appealing to the public for any information related to the shooting. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has urged that anyone with knowledge about the incident should come forward, an encouragement echoed in the release provided by the police.
