A tragic shooting occurred yesterday afternoon in the city's Baden neighborhood, which left one man dead and two other individuals injured, including an 8-year-old girl. KSDK reports that the incident happened near the Elite Supermarket and Grill, in the 8300 block of North Broadway, shortly after 5 p.m. A man in his 20s was fatally shot, and the young girl suffered a grazed wrist. A 25-year-old man was also shot in the leg and both he and the girl were taken to a St. Louis hospital.
Fleeing the scene, found about a block away from the market, the 25-year-old man received medical attention for his gunshot wound. A spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Mitch McCoy, addressed the injuries sustained by the young girl. "Thank God she is alright," McCoy told FOX2Now, emphasizing the girl's resilience despite the violence. He also highlighted the urgency in solving the case: "Somebody lost a lovedone, and we need to do what we do best and that's figure out what ultimately led to shots being fired and find whoever pulled the trigger."
The motive for the shooting is currently under investigation, with detectives trying to ascertain what initiated the altercation that escalated into gunfire. Reflected on the swiftness of events unfolding, Diata Crockett, a market patron moments before the shooting, told FOX2Now, "When I left the store, nothing was going on, and just how fast things take place. And within, I say, 10 minutes, I’m on my way back and all this has took place."
Witnesses at the scene are being questioned and surveillance footage is under review. Offering comfort in the store's professional conduct was Crockett, fearing that the incident could negatively affect the market's operation, despite it being an uncontrollable external act. As police work to unravel the shooting's context, the relationship between the victims remains uncertain, as per information from First Alert 4.
