The incident was reported to have occurred when he was descending, and a stick cut his upper thigh. The Utah County Sheriff's Office coordinated a swift search and rescue operation. Utah County Search and Rescue, alongside Lifeflight, responded to the emergency, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office told KUTV.

Rescue teams, with the assistance of a LifeFlight helicopter, were able to safely hoist the injured man off the mountain. Sgt. Normond from the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office elaborated on the rescue effort, noting that the rappeller was airlifted and subsequently transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The extraction operation concluded with the helicopter landing at the staging area around 12:40 p.m., as noted by KUTV.
