In a routine effort to maintain the safety of Mankato's roads, local law enforcement recently reported their traffic enforcement statistics for the month of May. As shared in a social media post, the Mankato Police and Fire Department disclosed a total of 573 traffic stops conducted by officers.

According to the Mankato Police and Fire, out of these encounters, 238 citations were issued, and 18 arrests were made for Driving While Impaired (DWI). Notably, among the DWI arrests, the highest blood alcohol content recorded was a staggering 0.30. When it comes to speeding violations, the police caught drivers pushing the limits, with the top cited speeds being 62 mph in a 30 zone, 61 mph in a 35 zone, and 85 mph in a 50 zone.

These figures underline the ongoing challenge that distracted, impaired, or reckless driving represents to community safety. "Driving safely matters. Distracted, impaired, or reckless driving puts lives in danger — and enforcement is just one part of the solution," the Mankato Police and Fire stated. The department's message was clear, urging the public to keep "Eyes on the road," "hands on the wheel, and "mind on driving."
