
On Monday at Kalama Park in Kihei, the Maui Police Department's Mobile Medical Education Unit provided services to houseless residents. The Mobile Medical Education Unit offered mental health support, help with food stamps, non-critical wound care, and other assistance. Aloha House and the Department of Education joined the outreach, sharing information on substance use, mental health services, and distributing food and personal care items, as reported by the Maui Police Department.
The Mobile Medical Educational Unit held an outreach event at Kalama Park to support the houseless community. Dr. Ricalde-Garcia provided blood pressure checks and handed out medical care kits. The Maui Humane Society cared for six animals and gave out pet food and supplies. The event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. throughout June. The Maui Police Department stated, "Aloha House: provided 15 participants with information regarding substance use and/or mental health services."
According to the Maui Police Department on their Facebook page, they are working with local organizations to assist Maui’s houseless community. The Mobile Medical Educational Unit partners with regional services to provide healthcare and support. The Maui Humane Society is also involved, providing care for the pets of houseless individuals. This joint effort helps meet basic needs and connects people with helpful resources.
