
At the recent State of the City address, Mayor Martha Guerrero laid out a vision for progress and development packed with noteworthy accomplishments, particularly for the West Sacramento community. The address, delivered on June 5, highlighted a range of successes—from the shared stadium for MLB A's and AAA River Cats to the notable passage of tax Measure O, which promises to boost public safety and infrastructure. According to a statement obtained by the City of West Sacramento, the additional tax revenue is already earmarked for hiring new firefighters and police officers, park improvements, road maintenance, and critical infrastructure funding.
Beyond the fiscal elements, the Mayor's address underscored environmental and technological advancements, spotlighting the City's Climate Action Plan, housing and business growth, and high-speed internet upgrades that are transforming broadband access in the area. This forward-looking approach also extends to localized community empowerment where, civic leaders received public honors for their indispensable contribution to the fabric of the City of West Sacramento.
It's not just about policy; it's about people. Community honorees at the event included He-Brews Café & Tea Company, which received the Civic Leadership Award for Pride "for creating a welcoming space that makes our community proud to call West Sacramento home." Mark and Mieko Mendenhall were recognized for their service to local neighborhoods with the Civic Leadership Award for Community "for strengthening neighborhoods and bringing people together through years of dedicated service." Additionally, District Council 16 Apprentices were lauded with the Civic Leadership Award for Service "for generously giving their time and talents to support public projects and uplift others," as stated by the City of West Sacramento.
Entrepreneurship and economic investment were also celebrated during the event with Franquette receiving the Civic Leadership Award for Prosperity for showcasing West Sacramento as an ideal environment for business success. Lastly, Sierra Northern Railway was honored with the Civic Leadership Award for Progress, in recognition of their "continued investment in making West Sacramento a great place to live, work, and play." These awards not only highlight individual achievements, but collectively signal a growing community interwoven with a commitment to common prosperity and shared progress, as reported by the City of West Sacramento.
