A longtime fuel stop on Woodland's Main Street is switching owners, with Romey's Gas set to become A&A Gas & Food Mart under a new corporate banner. The station at 3 Main St, tucked near Woodland Memorial Hospital and within reach of downtown and the Yolo County Fairgrounds, has served as a fuel and convenience stop under owner Devinder Singh Sahota since 2013.
According to WhatNow, whose reporting by Juan Carlos Montoya first detailed the transfer, A&A Gas Inc is taking over ownership from Sahota Enterprises Inc, the company Sahota has run for more than a decade. As part of the deal, A&A Gas Inc is also transferring the liquor license held by Sahota Enterprises Inc, and state filings show the new ownership group filed for a new liquor license on September 3. A&A Gas Inc is led by Abdul Khamosh and Ghulam Ali, according to the same report.
What the Rebrand Could Mean for Shoppers
The rebrand suggests A&A Gas & Food Mart is positioned as a combined fuel and grocery business, following a model typical of gas-and-food marts that pair fuel sales with grocery staples, fresh snacks, drinks, and everyday essentials, per the WhatNow report. That kind of expanded retail footprint has become increasingly common among independent station owners in the region as they look to draw steady customer volume beyond just fuel sales.
Any move into groceries alongside fuel and alcohol sales comes with state strings attached. Under California Business and Professions Code Section 23790.5, gas stations authorized to sell beer and wine alongside motor fuel are barred from displaying alcohol within five feet of cash registers or front entrances unless it's stored in pre-existing permanent coolers, according to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The license itself, a Type 20 off-sale beer and wine permit, allows sales of sealed beer and wine for off-premises consumption but strictly forbids distilled spirits or hard liquor.
Licensing Steps Still Ahead
Before A&A Gas Inc can legally begin alcohol sales under its own name, state procedure requires a mandatory background check of all corporate officers along with a formal public notice period, according to Permit Place. Once the transfer clears, staff who handle or sell alcohol will also need to complete state-approved Responsible Beverage Service training and certification, a requirement under Business and Professions Code Section 25680.
The property itself has a retail history that predates both Sahota and the incoming ownership. State environmental site assessment records indicate the 3 Main St site previously operated as Beacon Station #3447 before becoming Romey's Gas. Commercial real estate listings pegged the 0.26-acre parcel's estimated value at $445,000 as of August 2025, underscoring the scale of the physical asset changing hands.
A Corner With Environmental Oversight History
The station has drawn regulatory scrutiny before. Regional air district enforcement filings show that Sahota Enterprises Inc, doing business as Romey's Gas, was issued Notice of Violation No. 1681 in 2016 over gasoline vapor recovery system maintenance. More broadly, environmental prosecutors in Northern California finalized a $1.16 million civil settlement in April with a regional gas station operator covering underground fuel storage tank leak monitoring violations across Yolo County facilities in Woodland and Davis, reflecting wider regulatory pressure on independent station operators in the county.
The ownership change lands amid ongoing turnover along Woodland's Main Street corridor, where merchants have leaned on local food and retail openings to boost foot traffic since the pandemic. Woodland's role as Yolo County's commercial hub is also reflected in the numbers: the city generates 32% of all municipal solid waste deposited at the Yolo County Central Landfill, a marker of its outsized share of the county's population and commercial activity.
