Travelers can breathe a sigh of relief as the Airport Loop Road at McGhee Tyson Airport, closed due to a sinkhole that emerged yesterday, has been reopened. After swift repair efforts, the key artery for traffic around the terminal building and garages resumed operation late Thursday night. This development came shortly after the airport spokesperson alerted the public of the road's indefinite closure around 7 PM, as reported by WATE.
The sinkhole's sudden appearance prompted rerouting measures for all airport visitors. Officials initially urged fliers to arrive at least three hours prior to their scheduled flights to tackle the diverted traffic smoothly, a precaution underscored by both WVLT and WBIR. Those picking up passengers were advised to use the free Phone and Wait Lot instead of attempting to meet them at the curb to mitigate congestion.
The airport authorities provided Alternative route information through their X account, detailing the detours for travelers from Knoxville and Blount County. Despite the inconvenience, these directions ensured continued access to both terminal levels and all parking lots while the thoroughfare was undergoing repair, which McGhee Tyson officials confirmed through updates on their X account.
