The Memphis Police Department is calling for witnesses after a robbery incident at Family Dollar on 2920 Lamar Avenue. On June 2, at nearly half past noon, officers were dispatched following a report that two suspects near the discount store had robbed an individual. According to the Memphis Police Department, the victim had been shopping, only to confront a coercive shakedown upon leaving the premises.
The victim, uninvolved in any vehicular incident, was accused of hitting another's car – a pretense for extorting cash. Declining the claim, she was offered a brief respite before the confrontation escalated when she returned to Family Dollar. The male suspect, who falsely claimed the victim struck his friend's car, insisted the meager $5 she offered in good faith was not satisfactory. The situation took a turn for the worse when the female suspect forcefully attempted to seize the victim's purse. "When the victim threatened to call police, the female grabbed the victim’s phone and ran back to the four-door sedan and fled the scene," as detailed in the account provided by the Memphis Police Department.
Descriptions of the alleged perpetrators were noted in the police statement: Suspect #1 is a Black male with long dreads, a thin mustache, and a beard, who was seen wearing a black tank top, dark shorts, and a casual mix of black and gray socks with black and white slides. Suspect #2 is a Black female, noted for her bonnet and gown attire that stood out at the scene of the misdemeanor. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forth; the Memphis Police Department has listed Crime Stoppers as the contact point, notifying at 528-CASH for any tip-offs.
