It's not just about the fireworks. The Willmeng Arizona Celebration of Freedom, slated for Friday, July 4, is gearing up to offer a mix of entertainment that goes beyond the typical Independence Day fare. According to an announcement from MesaNow, attendees can expect to enjoy live music, pro wrestling, stunt shows, and a variety of patriotic programs. The event boasts a family-friendly vibe and has promised some cool respite from the heat at the Mesa Convention Center.
Outside the Mesa Convention Center, the event's organizers have planned Stage America, featuring live tunes from People Who Could Fly. A Salute to America program will also take place on stage at about 9:15 p.m. to help set the patriotic mood before the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. For those looking to witness some action, new this year is Phoenix Championship Wrestling's SLAMU at the Mesa Amphitheatre, where stars like Zamaya and Enrique Calderon are expected to definitely bring some energy to the squared circle.
Outdoor celebrations also include the Patriotic Military Showcase with various military vehicles on display, and information on joining the armed services provided by military recruiters from the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Space Force. Additionally, the crowd-favorite Patriotic Superhero Stunt Show will return with performances throughout the evening, adding some thrill to the festivities.
For those preferring to beat the heat, several indoor programs will be available inside the air-conditioned Mesa Convention Center. The Let Freedom Ring Laser Light Show is sure to grab attention with its combination of laser visuals and patriotic melodies at 7, 8, and 9 p.m. Accompanied by music from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Arizona Band, these displays promise to captivate the audience. The Fallen Soldiers Memorial will also be present, paying homage to Arizona's heroes fallen in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And for those with a penchant for history, presentations of historic U.S. flags are to be conducted at specific intervals throughout the evening.
The event, which is already in its 16th year, is backed by a host of sponsors including the City of Mesa, Mesa Convention Center, and Mesa Amphitheatre, among others. The celebration is open to the public from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., with more details on the full schedule available at the event's official website.
