The City of Mesquite has announced the closure of all city offices in observance of Juneteenth on Thursday. The City of Mesquite took to social media to confirm that while administrative buildings will remain closed, essential facilities such as the Mesquite Metro Airport, Compost Facility, and Convenience Center will maintain their regular operations.
Recreational and cultural amenities, including the Recreation Centers, the Main Library and North Branch Library, the Mesquite Animal Shelter, and the Mesquite Arts Center, will also be closed in commemoration of this federal holiday, which marks the end of slavery in the United States. Historic sites such as the Florence Ranch Homestead and the Opal Lawrence Historical Park will not be open to visitors either, providing a pause to reflect on the significance of the day.
While the public will need to plan around these closures, the city ensures that services provided by the Mesquite Metro Airport and waste management facilities will not be interrupted, allowing them to smoothly continue business and essential household activities.
