A Miami Beach man is facing a raft of serious drug charges after law enforcement officials allege he was both living with and manufacturing illegal substances in an apartment he shared with his young son. Martin Andres Romero, age 36, was taken into custody on Tuesday, according to a report by Local10, on grounds including drug trafficking, child abuse, and manufacturing a controlled substance while a minor was present.
The arrest came as a result of an undercover operation conducted by Miami Beach Police. An officer purchased cocaine from Romero last week, as detailed in a report provided by NBC Miami. This deal eventually led to the execution of a search warrant at Romero's West Avenue apartment, where police discovered a wide range of suspected drugs.
Among the substances seized were considerable amounts of what is believed to be cocaine, MDMA, LSD, psilocybin mushroom, ketamine, and fentanyl. The drugs were found in parts of the home that the police report noted were accessible to Romero's 3-year-old son, according to NBC Miami. Tools and materials suspected in the manufacture of the synthetic drug 2cb, known as pink cocaine, were purportedly found in the kitchen, where little hands too often find a way to reach.
Further to the drug allegations, Romero may also face immigration proceedings. An immigration hold has been placed on the Venezuelan national, as of yesterday morning, says the same Local10 report that highlights his being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center pending bond setting.
