
Gas prices in Michigan have decreased in the past week. The statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is now $3.08, a drop of 13 cents from last week. This price is also 17 cents lower than last month and 48 cents lower than the same time last year, as per The Detroit News.
Gas prices have dropped, with a full 15-gallon tank costing about $46, which is $11 less than in July 2024. In Detroit, the price is $3.12 per gallon, and some nearby areas have prices below $3. The Great Lakes region has seen the largest price drops after a minor refinery issue was fixed. According to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, "The national average price of gasoline has continued its gentle descent over the last week, with the most notable declines seen in the Great Lakes region, where a minor refinery issue was resolved, sending wholesale gas prices lower," as reported by The Detroit News.
OPEC Plus, including Saudi Arabia and Russia, plans to increase oil production by 411,000 barrels a day in July, stating they “reaffirm commitment to market stability on current healthy oil market fundamentals and steady global economic outlook,” as mentioned by Detroit Free Press. Crude oil prices remain just above $60 a barrel. In Michigan, the highest gas prices are in Ann Arbor at $3.13 per gallon, Metro Detroit at $3.12, and Grand Rapids at $3.10, while the lowest prices are in Jackson at $2.96, Benton Harbor at $2.98, and Traverse City at $2.99. AAA spokesperson Adrienne Woodland said, “Michigan drivers are seeing lower prices at the pump, with some metro areas seeing averages below $3 a gallon,” as stated by CBS News Detroit.
