A spate of shootings in Milwaukee has left the city reeling, with several individuals injured and two fatalities within a short span of time. The Milwaukee Police Department is currently investigating multiple incidents, including a quadruple shooting near a grocery store and another in the vicinity of the Deer District.
On Friday afternoon, tragedy struck outside Stark Foods II at 46th and Hampton when gunfire erupted, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old man and injuring three others. In the midst of chaos, a witness close to the scene recalled to TMJ4, "I want to say 7-8 shots happened and then people started running out of the store." They further confessed, "It's scary because when you're looking at stuff like that you don't know where the shots are going." The ages of the other victims have been reported as 27, 26, and 36.
Another harrowing incident occurred near Fiserv Forum in the early hours of June 8. According to a report from The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, four young adults were injured, with three 22-year-olds and one 21-year-old being treated at local hospitals. Details on their injuries have not been fully disclosed, but it was confirmed that the 21-year-old sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound. No suspects have been identified in this ongoing investigation.
The proximity of these violent events has shaken many of Milwaukee’s residents. The Deer District shooting followed three other multi-victim shootings in the city, with one such incident occurring a mere block away from the entertainment hub, as noted by local station WISN. These consecutive shootings happened within a time frame of 12 hours between that Friday and Saturday morning, with a cumulative toll of two dead and a number of others wounded. Police have yet to make arrests in relation to these attacks, leaving the community in search of answers and an end to the violence.
