Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs announced that the We Got This initiative will begin its 11th season on Saturday. The program, which provides work opportunities for middle- and high school-aged youth in the neighborhood, will start at 8 a.m. at the intersection of N. 9th St. and W. Ring, according to the City of Milwaukee.
Starting on Saturday, We Got This will run for 12 Saturdays at the garden located at 9th and Ring. Young participants will earn $20 for a morning of neighborhood landscaping or cleanup work. The program, which began in 2014, aims to provide opportunities for local youth through community projects, as reported by the City of Milwaukee.
Alderwoman Coggs said, "We Got This provides each participant with a landscaping or cleanup assignment in their neighborhood and a small amount of money is paid to each for their work." The program was started by community mentor Andre Lee Ellis with support from local groups. It aims to keep neighborhood youth away from drugs and violence by giving them work assignments, as stated by the City of Milwaukee.
