In a display of resolve and training, a Minneapolis police officer-in-training apprehended a car theft suspect who also had an outstanding felony warrant. The Minneapolis Police Department shared this incident on social media, lauding the efforts of the new recruit in the Second Precinct.
According to the MPD's Facebook post, the officer-in-training, who was with his field training officer at the time, initiated contact with the suspect after identifying him in connection with a car theft. The situation took a turn when the suspect attempted to flee and became combative, striking the officer in the head. Despite, these challenges, the rookie officer managed to maintain his composure and detained the individual until additional police arrived.
While investigating a car theft, our OIT and his partner located the suspect and informed him he was under arrest. The suspect fled on foot — but our OIT gave chase," the MPD statement detailed. The post went on to describe the physical altercation that ensued, praising the officer for his ability to remain calm under pressure.
Following the confrontation, the suspect was arrested, and it was discovered he was wanted on a felony warrant, showcasing the importance of the officer-in-training's actions. "Excellent work by this up-and-coming officer. Your training and composure made all the difference," the MPD statement concluded. The officer, still not named due to his trainee status, is receiving commendation from within the department, and now his story resonates with the public as an example of police work under stress.
