In a recent show of support for President Trump's decision to deploy the National Guard to California, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, along with 25 other Republican Attorneys General, issued a statement condemning the weekend's violent outbreaks in the state. They drew a stark line between what they describe as legitimate peaceful protests and the chaos they allege has unfolded on the streets. According to a statement on the Missouri Attorney General's Office website, they believe that the federal government's intervention was necessary due to the failure of local and state officials to maintain order.
"President Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard was the right response — and one we fully support," the joint statement said. Accused of arson, assault, and looting, the AGs are adamant about holding those responsible accountable. The statement further criticizes what they see as California's leadership that has allowed for a climate of lawlessness and has undermined law enforcement efforts, as per the Missouri Attorney General's Office.
Emphasizing their commitment to stand with law enforcement, the Attorneys General articulate a united front against "violent attacks on law enforcement" and "the normalization of mob violence as 'activism'." They also deplored any attempts to delegitimize the restoration of order and criticized political leaders who prioritize politics over public safety, as noted by the Missouri Attorney General's Office.
"There is nothing peaceful about looting businesses, destroying property, and attacking law enforcement officers in the discharge of their official duties," Bailey reiterated, echoing the sentiments found throughout the joint statement, according to the Missouri Attorney General's Office.
