Missouri's political sphere witnessed a significant shift as Governor Mike Kehoe appointed Halle Herbert as the new Policy Director, set to take office next Tuesday. Herbert, who has been serving as Senior Policy Advisor since January 2025, is stepping into the shoes of Jamie Birch, who is departing to explore new avenues at Missouri State University, according to an official statement from the Governor's Office.
In her brief tenure, Herbert has made a notable impact, "bringing energy, discipline, and insight to every challenge," as per Governor Kehoe's praises. Her portfolio already includes leading projects on public safety and helping to steer the Governor's Safer Missouri initiative. Herbert's aptitude for policy and administration has seemingly paved the way for her new appointment, "she has a sharp policy mind, is highly capable, and our team is proud to see her step into this leadership role," Kehoe said in a statement obtained by the Governor's Office.
Birch, the outgoing Policy Director, has been lauded for her fundamental role in the transition team and her previous tenure in the Governor's Office. Herbert acknowledged Birch's influence, stating "Jamie has laid a foundation for a strong policy team, and I am especially thankful for the way she has helped prepare me for this new role." Her relationship with Birch, and their collaboration appears to have been a significant factor in her smooth transition into the new position.
Prior to her engagement in the Governor's office, Herbert served as legislative director for the Missouri Department of Public Safety. There, she stood before the General Assembly and bridged communications for the Governor's Office. A Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Missouri State University backs Herbert’s political and policy credentials. The Governor's Office nods towards a sturdy future under Herbert's direction with the hope that she will continue to press on issues of public safety across Missouri the, National Guard, and Corrections Department.
