Commuters using Route MM near Purina Farms will need to prepare for a shift in their detours. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced a change in the current road closure location as part of their ongoing curve relocation work. Starting tomorrow at 7 a.m., crews will close a section of the route 0.5 miles south of Route T. The project, slated to wrap up by mid-day Monday, aims to build a new retaining wall along Labadie Creek and widen the roadway to enhance safety beneath the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge in Franklin County.
The closure on Route MM has been underway as MoDOT works diligently to revamp and reinforce the area's infrastructure. According to MoDOT's advisory, the construction is necessary "to construct a retaining wall along Labadie Creek, to shift and widen the roadway to improve safety at this location." Travelers have been navigating these inconveniences since the closure began, with the full reopening of Route MM not expected until September 2025.
Local residents and regular motorists should be aware that the closure applies to through traffic, which necessitates the use of alternate routes during the construction period. MoDOT has encouraged drivers to plan for added travel time and to follow detour signs posted in the area. This is part of a larger effort by the transportation department to make essential safety enhancements to this stretch of Route MM, which is a known problematic area for drivers due to its current layout.
For up-to-date information on road closures and construction progress, interested parties can visit the MoDOT website or subscribe to their updates. The transportation department insists that the closure and subsequent improvements are critical for the well-being of those who traverse these roads daily. "These improvements will significantly increase safety for motorists by rectifying existing roadway concerns," said a MoDOT representative in their announcement.
