A motorcycle crash on the eastbound stretch of 9600 Montana has claimed the life of a local man, marking the city’s 30th traffic fatality of the year. According to the El Paso Police Department, the accident occurred yesterday when the motorcyclist collided with the rear of an SUV exiting a private drive.
The Special Traffic Investigations unit, summoned to assist on the scene, noted that speed may have played a significant role in the deadly outcome. The preliminary findings suggest that the motorcyclist, identified as Lucero, was unable to come to a stop and avoid the SUV, despite traveling at a high rate of speed. Although transport was provided to a nearby hospital, Lucero's injuries proved fatal.
While the exact causes are being scrutinized, police point to possible contributory negligence with the SUV failing to yield the appropriate right of way. This tragic incident underscores a persistent issue with roadway safety and the devastating consequences that often arise from moments of carelessness or haste on the part of drivers.
