
A fatal collision claimed the life of a motorcyclist in New Berlin yesterday. The crash occurred around 1 p.m. on the 14700 block of West National Avenue near 147th Street, according to reports from multiple sources. The New Berlin Police Department stated that they responded to the incident which involved the motorcycle and another vehicle. Tragically, the motorcyclist, a West Allis resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, WISN noted.
The police have yet to release the name of the deceased, pending notification of the family, as "police are withholding their name until family has been notified," Journal Sentinel reported. The driver of the other vehicle involved was not seriously injured during the incident. The stretch of West National Avenue where the crash took place is expected to remain closed between Sunnyslope Avenue and Coffee Road until the investigation by authorities concludes.
As the investigation continues, the New Berlin Police Department is working to determine the specifics of the crash. So far, drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the accident. Assisting agencies include the New Berlin Fire Department and the Brookfield Police Department, as reported by the FOX6 News Milwaukee.
Motorcycle safety remains a concern in Wisconsin, with state Department of Transportation data indicating that in 2023, there were 100 motorcyclists killed and 1,949 injured in traffic incidents. This latest incident adds to a sobering tally, underlining the ongoing risks faced by motorcyclists on the road, as reported by the Journal Sentinel.
