Late last night, Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood was jarred by gunfire, as reported by the city's Public Safety Department. The police received two ShotSpotter alerts at around 11:45 p.m., indicating fourteen rounds fired at North Saint Clair Street and Broad Street. According to the City of Pittsburgh's official statement, Pittsburgh's Emergency Medical Services were swiftly on the scene, transporting three people to hospitals in various states of urgency.
The victims' conditions were quickly assessed, with one individual critically wounded and another severely injured, soon downgraded to critical. A third was more fortunate, suffering only a graze wound and was reported to be in stable condition. Shortly thereafter, another two victims managed to privately arrive at the Children's Hospital, both stable despite their injuries. Around ten others were tended to on site by EMS, their wounds minor, a consequence of falls or slight grazes by bullets, not serious enough to necessitate further medical attention.
As the investigation unfolded, the Pittsburgh Police Mobile Crime Unit was called forth to meticulously gather evidence — shell casings, video footage, anything that could lead to a break in the case. Detectives from the Violent Crime Unit have now taken up the mantle, digging through the aftermath, searching for the thread that will unravel the night's events.
No arrests have yet been made in this case.
