The Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) is gearing up to host its 2nd Annual Father II (to) Father Legacy and Wellness Conference, a day dedicated to championing the influential presence of fathers and male caretakers in the growth of young children involved in the Metro Action's Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Scheduled for Wednesday starting at 9:00 a.m., the conference will take place at MAC's headquarters situated at 1281 Murfreesboro Pike.

Attendees of the conference can look forward to on-site workshops covering a wide array of topics important to modern fatherhood. According to a statement obtained by the Metropolitan Action Commission, workshops will include practical skills such as "The 'Keys' to Starting Your Business or Non-Profit" and "Steps to Owning a Home" as well as crucial life skills, like "Men's Health" and "Balancing Finances and Building Credit." The event notably features a session on "Overcoming Justice Involvement," aiming to support those fathers on their journey to reintegration and active parenting.

The conference will culminate in an awards ceremony starting at 1:00 p.m., where fathers from all seven MAC early education centers will be recognized for their commitment to their children's development. A select individual will be celebrated as the "Metro Action Father of the Year," an honor bestowed upon a dad showing exemplary nurturing and engagement with his child's education and well-being. The interim Executive Director of MAC, Oluwadamilola Dairo, will join several distinguished guests in presenting the awards, including Clifton Peay from the Office of Nashville and Davidson County Mayor Freddie O’Connell and Lonnell Matthews, Davidson County Juvenile Court Clerk.

The Father II Father program sets its sights beyond the immediate horizon of practical knowledge and emotional support, it roots into Metro Action's broader efforts to tackle poverty and strengthen family dynamics through a Whole Family/2 Gen Approach. As the said program meshes with the agency’s preschool and early education efforts, it ultimately strives to carve paths towards economic and social advancement for families. Honoring, as the Metro Action Commission article articulates, is designed to empower, celebrate, and uplift the men who help shape the futures of young children.
