The Comal County Crisis Center (CCCC) is nearing the finish line for its new building, which promises to expand its services for survivors of domestic abuse. This construction follows the tragic fire in 2022 that razed the original facility to the ground. Once completed, the center will see its capacity to aid those in distress increase threefold.
According to a statement obtained by Fox San Antonio, Nicole Kepczyk, the center's Chief Impact Officer and a survivor of abuse, shared that "the fire, really for us in 2022 is a catalyst to say, we have to do something different. We have to actually imagine a different world for survivors." The new facility will notably boost the center's ability to shelter individuals, jumping from 24 spots to accommodations for upwards of 90 people at one time.
Details provided by News 4 San Antonio highlighted that the upgraded facility will also include seven apartments for transitional living, catering to those in need of extended refuge and support. Julie Strentzsch, CEO of the Crisis Center, pinpointed the escalating prevalence of domestic violence in the area, citing, "in the New Braunfels and Comal County area, one in four women are victims of domestic violence."
This development is positioned as a beacon of hope for a community grappling with the shadows of abuse. Kepczyk confidently stated on News 4 San Antonio, "What it will mean for a community to have healed and whole individuals will be transformative." The center prepares to open its doors to new residents by early 2026.
