A 67-year-old woman from New Mexico was found dead in Lake Michigan after a suspected swimming accident. South Haven Area Emergency Services recovered her body about five miles from shore around 6 p.m. on Monday. She was given medical treatment, including CPR, but was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her name has not been released at the request of her family, as reported by FOX 17

The woman was reportedly staying alone at a relative’s lakeshore property before she went missing. Authorities believe she went for a swim but was unable to return to shore. A boater found her in the water and placed a flotation device on her until South Haven Area Emergency Services arrived. She was located about 500 yards from 20th Avenue, as per WWMT.

South Haven Police said foul play is not suspected in the death of a woman found in the water south of the lighthouse. According to WOODTV, the woman went for a swim, but it is unclear how she died. “It appears the female went for a swim but never got out of the water,” police said. The autopsy results are still pending.
