The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine has suspended the medical license of Dr. Jonathan A. Benjamin, a pediatrician based in Newton, following allegations of inappropriate physical contact with female family members of patients. According to the board’s June 13 meeting, the suspension was issued after findings that Benjamin raises serious concerns regarding public health, safety, and welfare, as reported by NBC Boston.
Dr. Benjamin is also facing charges of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14. His arraignment is scheduled for July 7, according to CBS News Boston.
Dr. Benjamin has practiced in Massachusetts since 1981 and operates his own practice in Newton. Following the suspension, his office has declined to comment, and media attempts to reach him have not received a response.
Some community members have publicly commented on the case. CBS News Boston reported a statement from a guardian of one of Benjamin’s patients, who described past physical contact from the doctor as non-malicious and based on his demeanor. The guardian acknowledged the behavior could make others uncomfortable but did not interpret it as harassment.
The investigation and legal proceedings remain ongoing. The suspension reflects the board’s role in addressing allegations that raise concerns about professional conduct and public safety.
