Last Thursday's fierce storm in Northeast D.C. precipitated the partial collapse of a building undergoing renovation at the intersection of 19th and H Streets NE, fortunately resulting in no injuries as confirmed by the DC Fire and EMS Department. As reported by DC News Now, the structure experienced a significant failure of its top level and roof, causing debris to fall onto a parked car, specifically striking a nearby white BMW sedan.
Emergency responders including a K-9 team were quick to the scene to ensure there were no victims under the rubble, the area was then deemed safe after the search indicated that nobody was trapped, as detailed in an article by WUSA9, who reported that DC Fire also had to contend with other storm-related emergencies that night including, a tree falling on a minivan in Southeast and downed power lines in Northwest while the department's German shepherd alerted firefighters to the absence of individuals buried in the aftermath; WUSA9 meteorologists have issued a thunderstorm and flood watch until later in the evening.
The adjacent homes were also inspected for potential damage, but no structural issues were identified, contributing to the swift establishment of a safety perimeter around the significantly damaged building. This swift response was captured in photos shared by The Daily Voice, showcasing the extent of the damage with images of the collapsed upper level of the brick row home and the crumpled BMW beneath.
