The YSL trial in Fulton County has ended with no murder convictions for any of the defendants. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Demise McMullen pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of aggravated assault. The case centered on allegations that Young Slime Life, founded by rapper Young Thug (Jeffery Williams), was involved in criminal activity beyond music.
Young Thug previously pleaded guilty to charges including gang activity, drug offenses, and firearm possession. He received a probation sentence. The trial, noted as Georgia's longest, involved debate over the use of lyrics and social media as evidence.
Deamonte Kendrick, also known as Yak Gotti, was acquitted of all charges, including murder related to a 2015 incident. His attorney, Doug Weinstein, told WRDW that prosecutors unfairly targeted the defendants.
The prosecution used Georgia’s anti-racketeering law, allowing for broader evidence, which some defense attorneys said made the trial more complicated. Max Schardt, who represented Shannon Stillwell, stated the law expanded the case unnecessarily. Atlanta attorney Andrew Fleischman, who was not involved in the trial, also noted the process could have been shorter and less costly without the broad application of the law.
Christian Eppinger is the only remaining defendant. He declined a plea deal and faces charges including the attempted murder of a police officer in 2022. The jury selection for his case is expected to begin soon.
