The longstanding tradition that celebrates the achievements of African American youth in Milwaukee continues, as the Northcott Neighborhood House announced the latest winners of its 34th Annual Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant. The titles of Miss Juneteenth and Mister Juneteenth for the older age category, as well as Little Miss Juneteenth and Mister Juneteenth Junior for the younger contestants, have been awarded to a select group for their impressive dedication to academics and community engagement.

Entering its 34th year, the pageant stands as a testament to the enduring spirit and vibrancy of Milwaukee's African American community. This year’s honorees include Sydney Purifoy-Mahone as Miss Juneteenth and Kamari Murray as Mister Juneteenth. On the junior side, Lyric Kendrick took home the title of Little Miss Juneteenth, while Matteo Cooks was named Mister Juneteenth Junior. These winners will not only lead the Juneteenth Day Parade but will also be formally recognized by Milwaukee's Common Council at a regular meeting slated for June 24, as per an announcement released on the City of Milwaukee's official website.

According to the City of Milwaukee, Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, representing the 6th District where the popular Juneteenth celebration is traditionally held, has expressed strong support for the event and its significance in celebrating emerging leaders in the community. "These young people have demonstrated excellence both in school and in their communities, and are our future leaders," she stated. Coggs emphasized the need for acknowledgement from city leadership, saying, "It is important that we as city leaders take the opportunity to recognize their hard work and support them along their journey."
