A string of Nintendo Switch video game heists has come to an end with the arrest of Jamal Reed-Obafumi, 45, of Oakland. The Marin County Sheriff's Office reports that Reed-Obafumi is suspected in multiple burglaries at Marin County Libraries, where he allegedly made off with around $10,000 worth of games over months. The theft spree from April to June 2025 finally culminated in Reed-Obafumi's apprehension on Tuesday.
According to the Marin County Sheriff's Office, the suspect faced 12 felony charges, including burglary and committing a felony while out on bail. Libraries, long considered safe havens for community engagement and education, were the odd target for Reed-Obafumi's alleged crimes.
The Marin County Jail is now his temporary residence as the judicial process unfolds.
